Gloucester Academy Performing Arts Space

This was a newly built academy in 2013 and we were asked to design and install a theatre sound and lighting system that could be used in both the lecture theatre and the drama room. For day to day use the rooms are separated by a folding wall and so both rooms have their own control points that enable the Zero 88 Lighting desk to be operated in either space.  When a performance is being staged then the lecture theatre has a control point at the top of the tiered seating that enables the lighting to be operated from this ideal vantage point whilst the drama room becomes the stage.  As part of the design we installed heavy duty wool serge curtains both around the perimeter of the drama room and also across the folding wall for when shows are being performed.   For the sound system we installed industry leading, Martin Audio F12+ speakers that deliver a superb clean, loud sound.

Although the drama teacher wanted to have a lighting desk to control the lights from they also wanted to be able to have some preset lighting shows they could easily access for general teaching and rehearsal.  With this in mind we installed a Zero 88 Chilli wall mounted, control panel that can store up to 10 different lighting scenes and are simply accessed by a push of a button.

To hang both the lights and also some smaller back-ground speakers we installed a  lighting grid in the drama room and a lighting bar in the lecture theatre all of which have standard 15A dimmable sockets. For the Dimming we have installed a Zero 88, 24 Channel Chilli Dimmer and programmed the on board processor with various lighting scenes that could be used in both the lecture theatre and drama room and these programs are accessed via Zero 88 remote Chilli panel.

The sound and lighting installation now provides the right balance of flexibility and technology to allow the pupils to be more creative in their performances than ever before.
